Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
